Give Discount on Specific Products

You can give a discount on specific products, products with specific specifications, products from certain brands, or simply all products using the template: Discount on Specific Products.

Adding a Price Rule

  1. Go to Orders in the Afosto admin environment and select Discounts from the dropdown menu.
  2. On this page, under the Rules tab, you will see an overview of all configured price rules.

Additionally, under the Coupons tab, you can add new coupons and promo codes. Here, you can also link price rules, such as the template Marketing Discount Code, which allows you to give customers a discount after applying a coupon or promo code.

Start with a Template or Custom Setup

For now, we continue with the price rule: Discount on Specific Products.

  1. Click Add in the top-right corner to create a new price rule.
  2. Choose whether to start with a template or custom setup.

For this example, select the template: Discount on Specific Products.

Price Rule: “Discount on Specific Products”

First, give the price rule a name. This name will later be visible to customers, for example in their shopping cart or at checkout, so choose a clear and descriptive name.

In addition to the default name, you can also add translations, for example if you want to apply the same price rule across multiple sales channels, such as webshops in different languages (e.g., .de or .be webshop).

If Customer: Buys Products

After giving the price rule a name, it’s time to set the conditions the rule must meet.

Since you selected the template “Discount on Specific Products”, the required condition is already added: Buys Products.

For this condition, first specify which set of products the discount should apply to. You can choose from the following options:

All Products

Apply the discount to all products the customer adds to their shopping cart.

Products with Specification

Apply the discount to products that the customer adds to their shopping cart and that have a specific specification.

Start by entering the specification title. In the example below, this is: Hoofdcategorie_B2C.

Next, enter the specific specifications to which the discount should apply.

For this example, we use the specification Herenschoenen, meaning the discount will only apply to products with the specification: Hoofdcategorie_B2C > Herenschoenen.

Where to Manage Your Specifications

You manage product specifications for your webshop through the Afosto PIM (Product Information Management).

  1. Go to https://app.afosto.com/login and log in with your Afosto account.
  2. In this app, you manage the products that you list on your webshop.

To add or edit specifications, you have two options:

At the Product Level

  • Manage a product’s specifications on the page of the specific product under the section Product Specification.
  • Remove existing specifications or add new ones.
  • Save the product to apply the changes.

Using the Batch Job “Modify Product Specifications”

You can manage the specifications of one or multiple products using the batch job: Modify Product Specifications.

  1. Click Start in the top-right corner to run the batch job.
  2. Give the batch job a reference name so you can easily find it later.
  3. Choose how you want to execute the batch job: based on EANs or based on SKUs.
  4. Select the specification title you want to modify.

How Should I Format My Specifications in Afosto?

It is important to format the specifications you want to add correctly, so the system can properly execute the price rule later.

To help you with this, we have created a dedicated guide. Please refer to the documentation for more information about formatting specifications correctly before setting up price rules based on them. 'Product specifications'.

Standard Specifications

In addition to the specifications you can create and manage yourself, the Afosto PIM includes several standard specifications by default. These are immediately available in the app and do not need to be created first.

The standard specifications are:

  • Brand
  • MPN

Products by Brand

To apply a discount to products from specific brands, follow the same steps as described under Products with Specification.

Make sure the “Brand” specification is correctly filled in for the products you want to include in the discount rule.

Specific Products

To apply a discount to specific products, simply search for the product and add it to the rule.

If the product does not appear in the list but does exist, you can add it manually by clicking “Add Manually.”

Enter the SKU of the product and click “Add.”

Number of Products or Purchase Amount

Finally, determine how many products the customer must add before the price rule is applied. You have two options:

  • Number of Products
  • Purchase Amount

Then specify the minimum quantity or amount the customer must order, and optionally set a maximum.

Setting a maximum can be useful if you want another price rule to apply when a higher quantity or purchase amount is reached than the maximum defined in this rule.

If you choose Purchase Amount, also select:

The currency to which the amounts apply

Whether the purchase amount should be calculated based on the subtotal or the total amount

If Customer: Additional Conditions

In some cases, you may want to add extra conditions that an order must meet to qualify for the configured discount.

For example:

  • If you want the price rule to apply to one specific sales channel instead of all channels
  • If you want the customer to first enter a coupon or promo code before the discount is activated

In addition to the condition “Buys Products,” you can add the following extra conditions:

  • Buys on Sales Channel
  • Contact Contains Email Address
  • Belongs to Price List
  • Applies Discount Code
  • Meets Order Requirements
  • Buys Products
  • Custom

Then the Customer Gets: Discount on Products

After setting the conditions the customer must meet, it is time to define the discount. The template uses the condition “Discount on Products” by default, but this can be removed if you want to apply a different condition. Click the “Trash” button to remove the condition and then click “Add Condition” to select another one.

Next, specify how much discount the customer receives when they add the defined products to their shopping cart. It is important that you first add the same product selection that you previously defined, so the discount is applied to the correct products.

Then indicate how much discount the customer should receive. You can choose between:

  • Percentage discount
  • Fixed amount discount

After defining the product selection, determine how the discount should be calculated over the products. Finally, you can optionally use the additional options:

  • Calculate based on original price: By default, the discount is calculated on the sale price, if available. Select this option if the discount should always be calculated on the original price.
  • Maximum number of times applied per order: By default, the discount is applied repeatedly to all products within your selection. Choose this option if the discount may only be applied a maximum number of times per order.

Then the Customer Gets: Discount on the Order

If you do not want to give a discount on the products you previously defined, but simply on the entire order, you can use the condition “Discount on the Order.” After adding the condition, simply specify the percentage discount or provide a fixed amount discount.

Then the Customer Gets: Additional Conditions

In addition to “Discount on Products” and “Discount on the Order,” you can also add other conditions, for example when you want to apply a surcharge instead of a discount, or when you want to give free products.

The following conditions can be applied:

  • Discount on the Order
  • Discount on Products
  • Surcharge on the Order
  • Surcharge on Products
  • Free Products
